So, Phenibut is a legal nootropic. We are NOT discussing an illegal substance here! The purpose of this is both potential well-being, education, information, and harm reduction.

In the USA, Phenibut—also known as Beta-Phenyl-Y-Aminobutyric Acid—is a phenyl derivative. It’s not available at vitamin stores, but it can be legally purchased online.

What does Phenibut do?

So, what does Phenibut do? Why am I interested in it.

Well, this nootropic ultimately releases GABA in the brain. And, it can purportedly help with mood, relaxation, and concentration. It seems to be particularly effective at reducing anxiety. This interests me tremendously. Since moving, I find myself rather anxious.

There’s also reports of it having a positive effect on the libido. I’m not against that either.

I’ve been researching Phenibut because I think it could potentially improve my life.

HCL and FAA

I was looking at an online source called Liftmode, and I’m confronted with a choice between Phenibut HCL and Phenibut FAA. So, naturally I’m wondering what’s the difference.

I see the following:

  • Phenibut HCL 300 mg tablets for $29.99 –> Hydrochloride salt form. More common of the two.
  • Phenibut F.A.A (free amino acid) for $29.68 –> Free amino acid. This form is said to be more pure and a bit more effective than HCI. It’s said that this is often a sublingual form.
  • Both are said to be the same at the molecular level.

So, these are both about 30 bucks. And, that’s certainly affordable. I’ve researched enough to believe that this is a safe nootropic for me to try. And, my research indicated that I would be fine using it twice a month. I’ve already had my physical and medical evaluation. I’m in good shape. I’m presently not on any medications whatsoever. I no longer have prostate issues: thus I stopped Tamsulosin. I got my cholesterol under control. The only drug I take once in a while is a Viagra.

I do not drink alcohol ever. I believe I’m a safe candidate to try Phenibut out in a low dosage of 300 mg: to test it out.

So, I’m going to order the HCL tablets. It’s probably more common for a reason. And, it seems very convenient in the pill form.

Crystal form

So, I just discovered that all the capsules on Liftmode are sold out.

But, it appears the Phenibut HCL Large crystals are available.

5 grams –> $13.68

40 grams –> $29.68

Liftmode says this:

The large crystal form is recommended if eating Phenibut HCL directly without needing to gel cap or dissolve – due to reduced surface area, the large crystals don’t dissolve instantly and thus have a milder taste than fine crystals when eaten as-is.

Here’s a Reddit post where the poster discusses safe and responsible use of Phenibut for anxiety and the use of agmatine sulfate to help the body effectively process this nootropic.

Phenibut intro

Phenibut is a chemical compound that is not approved for food, drug, or veterinary uses by any US regulatory agency and is not considered a dietary supplement by any regulatory bodies nor by supplement industry participants. There is very limited high-quality English-language research available about the toxicology or biological effects of Phenibut in relation to human subjects. If consumed by humans or animals, Phenibut (as the free zwitterionic gamma-amino acid, sometimes known as the “free amino acid” or “FAA” form) has a molecular formula of C10H13NO2 and a molecular weight of 179.2g/mol. Phenibut HCl is the crystalline, acidic, stable, water-soluble hydrochloride salt form of Phenibut, and has a molecular formula of C10H13NO2 • HCl and a formula weight of 215.7g/mol.

WARNING: THIS MATERIAL MUST BE HANDLED WITH CARE, IN A RESPONSIBLE AND CAUTIOUS MANNER! THIS COMPOUND IS NOT FOR PURCHASE OR UTILIZATION BY THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18! DO NOT HANDLE THIS COMPOUND IF PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING! DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED HANDLING QUANTITY!

WARNING: If consumed, Phenibut can be addictive, and prolonged or heavy ingestion of, administration of, or exposure to Phenibut has the potential to induce negative and dangerous effects, including intoxication, impaired judgment, the inability to safely operate vehicles or heavy machinery, severe sedation and nausea, dizziness, vertigo, and lethargy, confusion, and in heavy overdose, potential hospitalization and prolonged sleep or stupor with reduced responsiveness that typically resolves within 72 hours for individuals with normal kidney function and adequate hydration.

WARNING: It is imperative to handle and utilize Phenibut with sound judgment and caution toward the potential risks. In countries where Phenibut containing medicines are approved for human consumption, a low and stable administered quantity of less than 1 gram of Phenibut equivalent per day for a strictly limited duration of continuous administration is almost always indicated to reduce drawbacks. Hence, the amount of Phenibut handled in one instance should never exceed 1000 mg (1 gram, 1/4th Teaspoon), and especially important, the amount of Phenibut handled in one week should never exceed 4000mg (4 grams, 1 Teaspoon)! Exposure to or ingestion of Phenibut in larger quantities per time period very likely increases the danger or drawbacks posed by the chemical! Exposure to Phenibut either on a frequent or daily basis or in larger than mentioned amounts can induce rapid physical tolerance and withdrawal symptoms, including several days to weeks of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. In some instances of continuous heavy ingestion, agitation and psychosis have been reported upon abrupt discontinuation of Phenibut exposure.

WARNING: Use responsible judgment and extra caution when handling this compound. Phenibut exposure can amplify the effects of alcohol and sedative, hypnotic or anxiolytic substances and medications – therefore it is very important to avoid exposure that could result in such combinations. Phenibut should NEVER be handled in 1 gram or larger quantity on multiple consecutive days, due to the potential risk of rapid development of physical habituation, tolerance, dependency, and adverse effects. Be sure to always carefully read, heed, and respect the Phenibut handling instructions and warnings against overexposure and dangers of ingestion provided above, and on the material container label. In case of excessive or prolonged exposure or ingestion, immediately consult a physician, and follow a plan under a doctor’s guidance to steadily reduce and eliminate such exposure and ingestion.
