DMAE is a legal supplement here in the USA. That’s my starting point. I’m not promoting anything that’s illegal. I’m not really promoting anything at all.

I’m just sharing my experiences with this supplement called DMAE.

DMAE is considered to be a nootropic. Um, I’m not some guy that’s hella into the whole nootropic scene.

I am somebody who—if you’ve read this—is recovering from major surgery…somebody who’s doing everything he can to reduce his daily pain…and, somebody who’s trying to reduce the amount of pain and health problems that might be coming down the line as I go deeper into life and…old age…

Now, in addition to my bone (spine) problems, I also watched my dad die from dementia…and, that was just INCREDIBLY SAD AND MISERABLE! I’m not sugar-coating anything. That was like visiting hell while still on earth for a full decade. And, the prospect of brain disease and deterioration also scare the bloody hell out of me. I Enough about that, though!

Let’s talk a bit about DMAE.

DMAE summarized on Healthline

Let’s quote Healthline…they seem to summarize things well

DMAE is a compound that many people believe can positively affect mood, enhance memory, and improve brain function. It’s also thought to have benefits for aging skin. You may have heard it referred to as Deanol and many other names.

While there aren’t many studies on DMAE, advocates believe it may have benefits for several conditions, including: ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, depression

Why did I try DMAE?

So, why did I start experimenting with this?

Because I saw info about how it supposedly cleaned-up your brain..and, it’s cheap and legal….let me see if I can find the original info I was reading…

It’s information like this that initially really got my attention:

Help for Alzheimer’s
MAE is found in high levels in sardines and anchovies, but small amounts of it are also produced naturally in the human brain. DMAE is believed to work primarily by speeding the production of acetylcholine, a crucial neurotransmitter responsible for carrying messages between brain cells and from the brain to the muscles that control body movements.

Acetylcholine, a synthesized product of choline, is also involved in higher brain functions such as learning, recall, and memory.1 Animal studies show that taking DMAE can boost levels of choline in the brain,2 which in turn increases the body’s ability to produce acetylcholine, resulting in a corresponding increase in memory ability and potency. Evidence suggests that DMAE crosses the blood-brain barrier more effectively than choline itself,3 enabling it to reach the brain and increase the brain’s choline levels more efficiently….

….

Research has shown that DMAE’s cholinergic effects help produce brain chemicals such as acetylcholine that are necessary for mental sharpness. Some individuals accordingly report that DMAE supplementation causes a noticeable boost in their ability to concentrate. DMAE users also routinely report better memory (especially short-term memory), as well as improved focus, mental clarity, and sleep patterns, all of which may be particularly valuable for those who work in high-pressure or deadline-oriented environments.

So the sort of tl;dr of a lot of this information is the promise that DMAE—more or less—makes your brain work better. And, hey…I saw bottles of the stuff on Amazon for like ten bucks so I figured… what the hell!

One thing I’ve noticed in my research of DMAE is all roads lead to discussions of something called it seems.

My personal experience with DMAE

So, I’ve been taking a DMAE capsule here and there. I was previously, for whatever reason, taking one before bedtime every now and then. I don’t know why I chose the before bedtime as when I dosed it…but, that’s what I was doing. I’ve also experimented with another pill before bedtime called ashwagandha: but, that will be a different post.

Anyway, today I decided to take a DMAE in the morning before I went to the gym. Now, I can’t prove anything…you know, correlation is not causation and that whole deal…but, I’ll tell you this: I was in a rare and unusually good mood while working out at the gym. And, let me emphasize the rareness of this experience…and, let me also clarify because saying good mood isn’t properly saying it…I had a downright giddy euphoria today—October 30, 2021—while I went from treadmill to pull-up bar to dip bar back to treadmill back to pull up bar to step climber thing back to treadmill…and, I just kept doing this while downright giddy…I mean it was really like that sort of bipolar stupid happiness that I also know something about…

More personal experimentation with DMAE needed

So, as a general rule, I’m not much for coincidence. I just don’t really believe in coincidence. And, I’ll try the DMAE in the morning before I head off to the gym tomorrow and report back.
